Every time I try to install a service pack for Office XP,
or I try to run Outlook, my computer tries to
install "Microsoft Outlook features" then asks for the
Windows XP for Students and Teachers which I don't have
because I run XP Home. This started 3 days ago and it
affects all users. Anyone have a clue how I can interrupt
this? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Greg,
Time for a little review:

You said, "I run XP Home". That is your operating
system..

You said, "Every time I try to install a service pack for
Office XP, or I try to run Outlook". These are features
of Microsoft Office - something altogether different from
the operating system, and if you have Outlook (I'm not
talking about Outlook Express) you must have some version
of Microsoft Office installed on your computer. From what
the computer is asking, it must be the Student and
Teacher Edition of Microsoft Office that it needs. You
need to heed what you are being asked to do. Insert the
proper CD in the drive, so that the installation of the
features can be accomplished.

Thanks Nancy. This problem affects all of the Microsoft
Office products on my machine. I don't use XP for
Teachers and Students. Just the Home edition. It behaves
like a virus in that someone has tried to install
software remotely on my machine. It tries to install
features for whichever Office application I try to use.

Hi, Greg,
Quoting you, "It tries to install features for whichever
Office application I try to use."
What Office programs are you trying to use? Microsoft
Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft
Outlook? Are you able to use them? If you are
successful in using these programs, then you have some
version of Microsoft's Office programs installed on your
machine as a 'program' aka 'application' - not as part of
Windows XP Home Edition (your 'Operating System', which
makes your computer usable) The programs I have cited
above are bundled as suites or they can be purchased as
standalone programs. If you do not have Student and
Teacher Edition of Microsoft Office installed, then
perhaps you have the Small Business Edition of Microsoft
Office. There are other bundles, but they are very
expensive. Use Start/All Programs and see if you can
find any of these programs listed. Also, look here:
Start/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs. What do you
find there that is relative to the subject?
HTH
