Installing Outlook 2007

I am currently running Outlook 2002 on my XP(Sp2) machine. I want to install
Outlook 2007. What steps should I take to insure that I don't lose my
contacts, emails, and email addresses?
 
You should take the same steps you take regularly to ensure you don't lose
your emails, contacts, and email addresses - you do a backup.

Other than that:
"Upgrading from an earlier version of Outlook
You can install Office Outlook 2007 over any previous installation of
Outlook. As in other 2007 Office release applications, user settings stored
in the registry are migrated. If a MAPI profile already exists on a user's
computer, you typically can configure your deployment to continue to use the
profile. However, if you are upgrading from an Internet Mail Only (IMO)
installation of Outlook 2000 or earlier, you might need to re-create user
profiles."

Thanks for your help. I back up regularly, so that shouldn't be a problem.
If everything migrates over, I should be good to go.

It would be a good idea to use the Mail applet in Control Panel to create a
new mail profile after installing the new Outlook, re-adding your account(s)
manually and pointing the profile at your existing PST as the delivery
location, or, if you intend to make use of the higher size limit the OL
2007-format PST allows, to copy the data in your existing PST to the new PST
that intsalling OL 2007 will create.
 
Just so you all know, I installed Outlook 2007 over Outlook 2002 as an
"update" with no problem at all. It appears that everything migrated
flawlessly. Outlook 2007 did default to an outgoing email setting that
requires authentication, which my email server does not accept. I deselected
that option and everything proceeded with no further hitch.

It's a very good idea to create a new mail profile when performing that type
of update, but if you're happy, so are we. Make sure the address book
interface is working correctly by opening a new message, clicking the To
button, and seeing that your Contacts folder appears.
