I am trying to use Outlook 2003 in Windows Vista, however, when Outlook is
run the Setup Wizard starts and asks to create a profile. After the profile
has ben created it shows the following error: "Unable to open your default
e-mail folders. The information store could not be found." I've tried
creating a new profile, adding data files, transfering my Outlook settings
from my old computer, reinstalling Outlook, replacing the file secur32.dll,
changing security and sharing features of Outlook and its folders, all to no
avail. Can someone help me? and what is the "information store"?

For what account type?

What made you to start manually replacing dll-files? This could have damaged
your installation beyond repair so you might want to undo whatever you did
to that if still possible.

No worries, I undid what I did when it didn't seem to make a difference (I
got the idea from a website and it was only one file). What account type? I
guess I am an administrator, since this is my personal laptop computer.

Finally, something I forgot to mention, I am not using Exchange Server, I
don't even want to use Outlook for e-mail purposes. I only use the calendar
and contacts because they can synchronize with with my handheld devices
(something Windows Calendar can't).

Thanks for the speedy response.

I meant your email account type but you mentioned that later in your post
;-)

Sounds to me you've got Outlook configured with an Exchange account. Go to
Control Panel-> Mail-> Show Profiles and delete your currently created
profile. Now start Outlook again and it will prompt you for your account
settings. Choose POP3 and provide "some" information (this doesn't have to
be correct since you don't want to use it for email). Once started you can
use Tools-> Accounts to remove the bogus POP3 account. Now you can use
Outlook's other features and syncing opportunities without being bothered
about email.

I see :-)

Well, I have followed your instructions. Erased the profile, started
Outlook, it indicated I had to go to Mail in control panel to start a new
profile. Went, started the profile, gave wrong information on the POP3
account, closed and restarted. It said profile needed a data file. Went
back, added one datafile for the e-mail accounts (personal folder), closed
and restarted. It took me to the original error message: "Unable to open
your default e-mail folders. The information store could not be opened." I
tried with the right POP3 settings, same result. :-( Any other ideas?

Sounds like you still have the Exchange account configured. Make sure you
have the default delivery location set to the pst-file.

I don't think it is still configured. There is only one profile, with only
one e-mail account (POP/SMPT). In the properties of the profile, in e-mail
accounts, where it says: "deliver new e-mail to the following location" there
is the pst data file I created. It's all as you said, just keep getting the
same message. Wouldn't that be a problem between Windows Vista and Outlook
2003? I have the exact same settings in my old computer with Windows XP and
it works just fine. What do you think?

Bingo!!! It is working, I redid everything, added some extra data files
from my old computer and voila, it is working.

Thanks for the help!!!
