Installing Older Software

I have some questions about 'unsupported' software
installations. I have a Microsoft branded software
package, that is designed to enhance functionality of a
Microsoft peripheral device. The setup/install program is
quoted as being for Windows 95/98. There are no versions
available for XP, and I currently use XP Home.

My question is this. If I reformat my disk and clean-
install Windows 98, install this software package on 98,
and then upgrade to a new XP Home, on top of the previous
98, will the software package remain on my system and
still be usable, or will it be overwritten, or cause
system conficts? I've heard that there may be a problem in
XP with this software related to something called the NT
Kernel. Will the kernel still be affected, or is the
installation mentioned above a 'workaround' for this?

Thanks,
John

Did you try to do the install? If it failed you can try again, but what you could try
is to right click on the setup program and select properties. There should be a
compatibility tab. You can select Win9x and apply. When you run this setup, XP will
try to lie and act like Win9x. This sometimes works, but it all depends on the way
the setup program determines the version of the OS.

Good luck!!
