Dan

I'm using a computer on which MS WORKS was pre-installed,
along with WINDOWS XP (Home Edition.) I want to install
OFFICE XP Professional.

Is it possible to install OFFICE XP Professional with
WINDOWS XP? I bought the upgrade pkg, but don't notice
that WIN XP is one of the requirements.

Also, I'm wondering how the installer detects my
eligibility for this upgrade. I have been using OFFICE
97 on older computer that I'm about to stop using.
Should I install OFFICE 97 first, so the installer can
verify my previous registration?

Thanks for any advice, y'all.

You should be able to install Office Xp. The requirements are the lowest
you can have.
It would just not make sense to be unable to upgrade Office Xp Standard to
Pro.

Hi Dan,

Yes, you can install OfficeXP into WindowsXP. WindowsXP would not be a
qualifying product for the upgrade version as it is an Operating System, not
a suite of programs. An Operating System is the platform into which you
install the programs (like OfficeXP) you wish to use, it is what allows you
to interact with the hardware your system is built with.

In order to install your upgrade package, you will need to show it proof
that you own a qualifying product. You should not have to install the
qualifying product (and Office97 does qualify it), you just need to insert
the CD when the installer prompts for this step. Once accepted, the
installation will proceed.
