If you are installing Office 2003 on a system with Office XP, should you
uninstall XP prior to installing 2003 or just install 2003 on top of XP?

Thanks

If you install without removing the earlier version, the install program
will ask if you want to remove the earlier one. Unless you have a good
reason to keep it, I would suggest that you have it removed.

Install Office 2003 on top of XP; this will preserve your settings.

A companion question to this: I currently have Word as
part of MS Works Suite 2003-XP Home Edition. I have
purchased Office Professional Edition 2003; the only
overlap in applications is Word. Should I uninstall Word
before installing Office Prof 2003 or will the Office
version of Word automatically replace the Works Suite
version of Word during the installation process?

This is probably a silly question, but I am trying not to
make a mistake

Works Suite 2003 contains Word 2002, so it is possible that Office 2003
would overwrite it, but ordinarily Office does *not* replace Word when it
has been installed from Works Suite, and this can cause problems down the
road, so yes, uninstall Word 2002 before installing Office 2003. The
uninstall should leave your data (files) and settings (Normal.dot, etc.) to
be used by Word 2003.

I think that I would un-install the Works Suite and then do a complete
install of Office Professional.
