Installing Norton AntiVirus 2004

I got errors when I installed this package and the Symantec fix is to go to msconfig and check on a couple of items. My problem is that when I do a START --> type MSCONFIG and OK, I either just see the cursor go to an hourglass momentarily and/or I see a message block flash on the monitor VERY briefly that says something about hidden files. I tried to get around this by just searching for MSCONFIG, opening it and doing as requested. I haven't found anything which opens this and makes it readable!!
