Sounds stupid, but do I have to uninstall version!.0.519
which expires on 7/31 before downloadingthe newest
version? " Refresh" indicates that I would not uninstall
the previous version.
I have been reading the problems others have been
having. I have not had a single issue with this build I'm
using, and it has detected a ton of malware, but am
getting nervous about downloading the newest. Can someone
advise. Thanks.

You don't need to uninstall the current version--the download will state
explicitly that it is upgrading.

However, for best results, at the moment, I recommend the following manual
steps.

1) download and run the new build. It will perform the upgrade, and ask you
to restart.
2) restart the machine.
3) inspect \windows\system32\gcUnCompress.dll and note its size.

If the size is 95k or so, you are done--nothing more needed.
If the size is 130k or so, delete \system32\gcUnCompress.dll
Go to Control Panel, add or remove programs, Microsoft Antispyware, and
click on Change, next (next?), and Update--continue through the prompts,
performing an update repair of build 614.

Once that update finishes, you are done--all should be well. If you are on
the paranoid side, do a File, Check for updates, and see what happens. To
verify the result, check \program files\microsoft antispyware. The two
largest .gcd files should have July dates on them.

Apologies for the seeming complexity here--there's an installation bug which
is frequent enough that I recommend checking on it.

What I posted is somewhat complex, I'm afraid. If you are in any doubt, I'd
recommend sitting tight for awhile. Microsoft is investigating the issue
about definition updates, and I'd expect them to respond soon.

Thanks so very much!!! Your recommendations have saved
me from a frustration level I don't like to think about.
I did indeed have the wrong file [mine was 127K] instead
of the 95K after upgrading to build 614. I followed your
instruction and all is now well. I even checked the gcd
files and they had July dates on them. a manuel
definitions check went smoothly and MSAS scan went great.
I'm very appreciative of your help.

Glad to hear it!
