You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, the following
free utilities are a lifesaver if you should lose your settings and other
important files.
For IE...
BackRex - Internet Explorer Backup - Free Download

Backsup all IE files, including Cookies and Favorites
I use this program and like it very much.
and if you use Outlook Express:
Outlook Express Backup programs
www.oehelp.com/OEBackup
On a normal basis I do a backup in each at least once a week, but, if I am
going to make any major changes or install a new program, I always make a
new backup of these files, my Registry and create a new restore point.
They're worth their weight in gold when you need them.
