Installing new updates

I have updates that I received from Windows
Update.Microsoft.com and downloaded them but they will not
install. I did get the virus that started on
tuesday but at least now it only comes on about once an
hour where it was almost every minute before. I am
computer illerate just about so I don't know where to go.
Best Buy said that I need to take the tower in and they
can take the virus out and all will work. Is this so???
Remember I am slow at doing such on the computer.
