Whenever I install software it says to close all windows applications.
Ctrl-alt-delete has a tab for applications and another for Processes. Do I
have to close everything under both tabs? Thanks.

Phil, I just close the open programs : the ones that have windows on the
desktop. Basically these are the same programs that you will find on the
Applications page of Task Manager. Except when reinstalling drivers or
updating software that was currently running, I've never found it necessary
to go further than that.

Many of the processes are necessary for normal operations and you'll end up
with your system shutting down when that's not really what you're after.

Hi Phil,

Don't worry about processes unless you are running into trouble installing.
Just applications is normally sufficient, however you should shut them down
through their own program controls, not task manager, whenever possible.

Sharon & Rick,

Thanks for your response. Just shutting down the applications makes it
a lot easier.

Indeed.....
