When installing new program the advise is to close any
active programs. On Win98, by using task manager, this
meant closing all except the Explorer and the Systray. On
XP Home edition the task manager shows many active
programs. Which of these should not be closed?

What is meant by "closing any active programs" is you should
not have any active windows open.....you should only be seeing
your Desktop. In Windows XP, it is not necessary to shut down
programs, using Task Manager, prior to installing a new program.

You only need to close any programs you have opened, i.e., windows showing
on your task bar. Also, turn off your virus program, don't forget to restart
it after you have installed your application !!!.
