Hi All,

I have 2 windows 2000 server in my forest, one is PDC the other is the BDC.

Unfortunately, the PDC will not boot up right now and it was also running
Exchange 2000.

I plan on installing Windows 2000 server on another computer and making it
the PDC in the same forest with same name as current offline server and
reinstalling Exchange on it.

Will there be any issues with this setup in terms of networking?

Thanks for you help.

As far as the OS is concerened, if that server is toast, you will need to
first seize the fsmo roles by the other DC - that would be your first step

Using Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controller
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;255504

After that is done, I would delete the computer account. Then build your
new server and you can trasnsfer the fsmo roles back once the new server is
made a DC.
However, you mention this also had exchange. Is this the only exchange
server? Does it have mailboxes? Depending on how exchange is configured
could change the above steps before building your new server.

And to add to that, best practices is to NOT install exchange on a domain
controller (the PDC/BDC thing went out with NT4). Since you now have the
opportunity, it would be a great time to re-install it on a member server.
