Bob

I have installed games before, but when I tried to
install new game I recieved this error message. "This
application had failed to start because Engine.dll was
not found." It said to try and re-install but still no
help. Please let me know what I can do to fix this.

Hi Bob,

Which new game are you installing?

Hi Bob,

If you're installing from a backup CD, try using the original.
If you have the same problem with the original, there might
be some data corruption on the CD (check for scratches).

If the CD looks clean, contact EA Support for follow-up.
If you feel this is an XP issue, we can try troubleshooting it.

Here's something similar:

What video card do you have? Check the Windows site in my sig, in the
guides section there's an article on how to find out if you're not sure.

A few things to try would be installing DirectX, (www.microsoft.com/directx)
and grab the latest video drivers for your card (from the manufacturers
website).

Thanks Paul,

Somehow all the posts I made during lunch didn't come through. :-s

I installed directx and downloaded latest video driver.
Still not working. What else could I do?

i am installing from original and it looks clean. This
might help. When I turn on computer and windows is
loading I get this error message: Error loading
C:\windows\System32\bridge.dll. I don't know if this has
anything to do with this problem, let me know. Thanks.

The game manual and EA website have not been helpful to me in diagnosing the
problem. I am trying to find system requirements. My guess based on the
error messages is that your graphics chipset may not support functionality
that the game is expecting. I've seen other games display similarly cryptic
messages when they were having problems with an unsupported graphics
chipset.

The manual says "Unless you have a supported video card with at least 64MB
of video memory, set your screen size to no higher than 1024x768" so check
the screen resolution you are launching the game with.

The game manual makes reference to software rendering so try launching the
game in that mode. If it runs then it would support the hypothesis that
the game is having problems with your display chipset.

Thank you for your help. i found what I needed for the
game on the EA help line and it worked. Thanks for the
advice on my windows system.
