Installing Mouse

I am trying to install a mouse instead of using the
touchpad on my laptop. but for some reason the touchpad
will not disable and the mouse is not being recognised !!
Can anybody help ??

Sounds like something you need to take up with the laptop maker's website.

Generally, if the mouse is plugged in when the laptop is booting up, it
should be recognized. Are you using the PS/2 or USB connection?
