I have twice tried to do the Windows Updates, but both times ended the
computer was not able to run that I had to use recovery CD to wipe out
everything.

I read from the below web link that I could download SP2, but abort the
installation, then go into the MovieMaker21 directory to get MM21
installed.
see the forum discussion link.

(Change to *.bat to perform the MM2 installation)

Anybody tried this route before? safe to do? How to abort the Windows
Update Process?

Isn't it really worth updating from MM2 to MM2.1 ?

I've done it many times and think it's safe... but it's a lot easier to just
keep going with MM2.0.

What do you need from 2.1 to make it worth such an approach... I did it to
test MM2.1 before the final SP2 was released, just so I could check MM2.1
without having issues related to the beta version of SP2.

Hi, PapaJohn, Thanks for your reply. Just for clarifications.

1. MM2.1 is worthy upgrading from MM2.0

2. You mentioned that you have done only MM2.1 (without other SP2)
many times safely. Then your comments are appreciated of the
below steps.
a) download the windows updates
b) after expansion of the compressed files into the temporary
directory;
ABORT the SP2 update process;
c) run the above "MakeMM21.bat"

I didn't use a batch file... I did it all manually, but setting up the MM2.1
files in a different folder than MM2.0.... every time I wanted to switch
from one version to the other I would unregister the DLLs in one and
register the DLLs for the version I wanted to run, which was easy enough
batch files in each folder to unregister or register them... it was a bit
more complex because I was running both versions... doing it once for one
version is a good bit easier.

Just save the MM2.0 files in case you want to go back.
