Bought a new Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV and I am having problems
installing it in a Windows XP environment.

When I try to use it I get the message "Could not confirm scanner
connection".
The system does not recognise the driver - I get the message "The class
installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device"

I konw the drivers are there because I can see them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You have to be logged in Windows XP as administrator to install the Minolta
software.

Also you have to install the Dimage Scan Dual IV software before you connect
the scanner.

Read the Install instructions in your Instruction Manual. Start reading on
page 9 and read to the end of page13 for Windows.

It would be wise to remove the Scan Dual4 software and start over.

There is a remove Scan Dual4 in the Start menu of Windows XP Scan Dual 4
ver.1.0

If you have a failed software install, remove the Dimage Scan Dual4 ver. 1.0
from the Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Thanks for the tips, I had already done all that TWICE!. Despite the fact
that I had followed the instrcution very carefully the first time I
actually removed compleletly the sofftware and did everything by the book
again.

Now the situation is as follows:

Every time I switch on my PC and turn on the scanner, the small window in
the status bar appears saying: Found new hardware - Then the Wizard starts
and ask me to install it, I do (every time!). I get the message s/w did dot
pass logo test.....
Then a message Cannot install this hardware DIMAGE Scan DualIV.
Then again a message The device may not functionproperly.
Then the window saying Found new hardware and the wizard The whole thing
starts all over again!
At which time I simply cancel.

Then I can do scans!

When I go to control Panel/system/Hardware/Device Manager/Imaging Devices I
see a yellow exclamation mark in front of Dimage Dual Scan IV. If I open
properties I see: the drivers for this device are not installed (code28).

I sent an email to Minolta support about 4 days ago and never got an
answer!

Regards

You are not following the instructions in the Minola Scan Dual 4
instructions manual.

You must be logged as Administrator in XP.

1. Disconnect the scanner from USB and Power.

2. Remove Scan Dual 4 Software. Check Device Manager, delete any yellow
marked Scan Dual4 devices. Reboot Computer.

3. Put in CD for Scan Dual 4. When it auto starts, Click Starting up the
Dimage Scan Dual4 installer. Click Next each time it asks then
Finish.(Restart Computer).
Note: It will appear that nothing has happened. (It HAS!)

4. Connect the Scanner Power and USB. The door on the scanner must be
closed. Press the Power button on the scanner. Led on scanner will blink.
You should get Windows Device Connect sound if you have a sound card
installed. The led will blink until the TWAIN interface initializes.

5. Start Adobe Elements 2.0 (you did install it?) Files>Import>click
DS_Dual4 1.0. Scan Dual Software will start, Scanner will make noise, led
will stop blinking. Twain Interface will be on screen.

6. Open the door to the 35mm notch. Load film holder or slide holder. Select
film type, Do Index Scan, Select a frame, do Prescan, do Final scan. Close
DS_Dual4 (the X in upper right corner). Save as the Image. Exit Elements.

7. Reboot Computer.

8. If you disconnect the USB cable before turning off the scanner, you have
less chance of problems with Windows freezing. (It freezes my Windows 98SE,
no problem with Windows XP Home).

Me again,

1. I am the administrator of the system

2. Re-did everything, but as soon as I power on the scanner the led blinks
and I get new hardware found followed immediately by the new hardware
Wizard. If I ignore it and cancel I cannot use the scanner, but if I go
along and install it once, then cancel when it starts looping a second time
I can use the scanner despite the yellow warning in the Device Manager.

3. I have a Canon flatbet scanner and a Logitech camera installed, I
thought may be there is a conflict there so I disconnected both to see if
there was any difference, there was none.

Thanks for your efforts but I really believe there is a problem with the
way the Minolta driver or hardware is made to work under Windows XP.

Did you check the eventlog for system error messages?
I had a simular problem with a scsi scanner. I was able to activate
the scanner with the hardware Wizard, but XP doesn't installe the
scanner at boot time.
The eventlog talked about a timing problem. I changed some parameter
in the bios of the scsi controller. Now it works.

I guess nobody ever told you, Windows XP can only support one USB connected
scanner at a time, so if you have two scanners , you must disconnect one
before connecting the other to the system- they will not function properly
if at all connected at the same time. I'll hazard a guess at this stage and
say that having your Canon flatbed connected to the machine during the
installation of the Minolta software/hardware is screwing up that install.
Uninstall everything to do with the Minolta scanner, disconnect the Canon
flatbed , reboot the machine and start from scratch installing the Scandual4
without the flatbed being connected.
