I downloaded word onto a floppy disk to reinstall on my
pc after I installed windows xp and I put the disk in and
click open but it will not open and now I cant install
it. Can you please tell me how to get it to install
without having to buy a new word disk?

There is no way that the entire Word app would fit on a floppy (that's why
it comes on a CD or multiple floppies). If you have copied just winword.exe,
you don't have the whole thing, including the installer. You must reinstall
from your original media. If you find you must purchase a new copy of Word,
the cheapest way to get it is as part of Works Suite (not just Works). Even
if you don't install any of the other Works Suite apps (and there are some
useful ones), this is cheaper than buying Word alone (don't ask).

Hi, Linda,

Bad news... You should have a CD. If you bought Word or Office
separately from the computer, you should still have that disk, and if
you lost it, then you have to buy a new one. If Word came already
installed from the manufacturer of your PC, they *should* have
included the disk, but some don't. If you never got that disk, call
them and ask for it (and good luck!).

You can't "download Word onto a floppy" because it won't fit -- just
the single file Winword.exe is over 5MB for Word 97 and over 8MB for
Word 2000, and that doesn't include all the other files that go along
with it. Besides that, you can't save an installable copy off a hard
disk where it's installed, because the installer also has to write a
bunch of registry entries.
