Hi, I have Win98 SE and Internet Explorer 5 (I think). I had been having
trouble connecting to the internet (computer given to me), so I uninstalled
IE through control panel, and I also deleted IE directory. When I try to
install IE 6 it keeps telling me IE is already installed. What can I do?

Find and remove the Active Setup Log.txt file, if present.
Find and delete the Msdownld.tmp folder, if present.
Find and delete the Iemigrat.dll , if present. (It will be hidden.)
Find and clear out the Windows Update Setup Files folder, if present.
Delete the "IE System Migration" value from the following registry key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\Migration\100 (if
present)
Reinstall IE and components.

First, close *everything* via CTRL+ALT+DEL except Windows Explorer (includes
your AV program, Scheduled Tasks, Screensaver, and going offline). Start >
Run > (type in) IE6Setup.exe. Select Minimal - Custom; Select all the parts
you use, including OE (but none you didn't originally download) and
overinstall. Should take about 2 minutes. Reboot the computer.

Now, with AV and all other running processes still closed, check in at
Windows Update for additional updates and patches you may need.
