Do i need to install the Intellitype/Intellipoint Vista update before or
after upgrading to Vista?

I am afraid to lose keybord/mouse functionality when upgrading to Vista
before updating the drivers to Vista.

No, you don't need to. I'm using the Desktop 6000 combo and Vista still
recognizes the keyboard and mouse as generic versions. You just won't have
functionality of the special keys until you install the software.

I too am using the MS Wireless combo, on x64. I ahven't installed any
additional software (two updates are available via WU but I've not
installed them).

Som hotkeys work - mute, web/home etc, but other don't - My Music, My
Pictures etc.

Beware though, your screensaver will not activate. The drivers prevent
the screensaver kicking in. Unplug the mouse/keyboard wireless gizmo
and the screensaver works! New software is due in December (from
microsoft.com/hardware site), so I hope it addresses this issue (the
WU updates do not, I tried them on a different PC).

You will regain the functionality when Vista installs the drivers so there's
no drama.

Microsoft has released the new drivers for the mouse and keyboard but the
problem remains the same. How could we wait all this time for the solution
and they couldn't solve something as simple as this??????

Yes, confirmed that they did not fix the bug with the 3.0A Receiver (i.e. the
wireless mouse 6000) in which the screensaver will not activate.

I cannot believe that they listed this as a known bug with the beta version
of the intellipoint/type 6.1 drivers and still did not fix this really
annoying problem with the 'final version' of the 6.1 drivers.

I'm also seeing some really strange problems with the behavior of the
scrollwheel too.

Never again will I buy a MS keyboard/mouse - they cannot even make their own
hardware work correctly with their own OS, absolute rubbish!

I downloaded and installed the latest drivers yesterday, 12/14/06 and my
screensaver still won't activate. Is there some notification area where we
can see when new drivers are released? Right now, at

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/Download.mspx

all I see are links. Looking at those, the name (for Intellipoint) is just
IP32Eng.exe. Will that name change with updates? Will Windows Update catch
new mouse drivers?

Is this problem only applicable to Dell systems, because I have no problems
with screensavers, and I have the MS 6000 mouse?

Ray

All systems.

I don't have Dell, and I don't have DVDLauncher.

On XP it seems to be MCE editions, and on Vista it seesm to be
Ultimate. Basically, anything that uses the MCE components.

I read elsewhere that it also depends which version of the USB device
you have; V1 doesn't have the problem but V2 does.

I'll see what happens when my Logitech kit arrives tomorrow....
