i have a compaq computer and have tried to install my 3550
hp printer. when i install it using the driver i was
given w/my computer which is a microsoft XP, it say's "if
you have already connected the usb port, disconnect and
reconnect now". and then you do this, hit retry, and the
same screen comes up. i've been told that the hp drivers
have had problems. but i dont know what to do and i have
the hardest time getting around on here just to find and
UNDERSTAND in layman's terms how to fix this. someone
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! i would like to use my printer.

In layman's terms, you need to go to the HP website and download XP drivers
for your printer if any are available. Here's the link to the download
site:
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html
Once there, input your printer and model number and press enter or click the
small button at the right of the box. Then click on your printer if you see
it, look for drivers for your printer and XP. If there are none, you need
to contact HP tech support to see if the are supporting your printer in
Windows XP. By the same token, if you have trouble with the drivers you
download, you also need to contact HP as drivers are the responsibility of
hardware manufacturer.
