We have three Windows 2000 Domain Controllers in one
domain tree (Native Mode) and two of them reboot randomly
after installing SP4.
The following event message appears in the Directory
Services log:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: NTDS General
Event Category: Internal Processing
Event ID: 1173
Date: 2/16/2004
Time: 14:33:17 AM
User: xxx_xxx
Computer: xxxxxxx
Description: Internal event: Exception c0000005 has
occurred with parameters 757b5954 and 0 (Internal ID 0).
After that lsass.exe causes Dr. Watson error in
Application Log and server reboots itself:
Event ID: 4097, eli lsass.exe generated an error. Error
occured 16.2.2003 14:33:50. 605 The exception generated
was c0000005 at address 757b5954 (DsaEnableUpdates).
The third DC does not have this problem.
All three servers are identical HP Proliant DL360 G3
model. We have updated all the HP components with latest
Smart Start drivers, but it didn't solve the problem.
There is no any kind of Antivirus programs installed on
our DC:s.
We have obtained the hotfix 828297 and have few questions
about installing:
1. Hotfix has two files, Windows2000-KB828297-x86-ENU and
Windows2000-KB828297-x86-ENU-Symbols. Should we install
both files and which is the right order ?
2. Should we install the hotfix to all our three DC:s or
just the two problematic machines ? If all the DC:s don't
have the same SP/hotfix level, will this cause problems
with replication etc. ?
3. Two of the servers are running Wins services (one of
them is a problematic one) and technet documentation
mentions that this patch may cause Wins problems. How
propable is this and should we prepare in advance by
acquiring patch for this too ?
Thanks in advance
