I recently tried to downgrade a dell inspiron 1525 notebook from vista to
XP. However, this pc has a new hard disk controller(ahci), whose drivers are
not included in the xp installation cd. I can get the driver for XP but the
only option that I get during setup is to install it using the "A" drive
(floppy). Needless to say, this newer computer systems don't have floppy
drives anymore.
Is there a way to install the driver through F6 but using some other device
(CD, USB)? Luckily in this case I was able to switch the type of controller
in the Bios, but I susspect that by doing that, the performance of the
harddisk is compromised.
