When trying to install FP98 on new PC, using Windows XP ver 5.1, it gets to
16 % and hangs up. What can I do.

Do a custom install and do **not** let it install PWS ( personal web server )

I don't know, but I'd strongly suggest a later version, FP2000 at the very
least if not 2003.

Are you doing a custom install so it doesn't install the FP PWS or the MS
PWS (which will not work on WinXP).

FP 98 comes with a personal web server that is required to run the program.
If you try to install FP 98 on WinXP, you will have serious problems, as
WinXP does not support the FP personal web server.

You can try doing a custom install and not install the FP web server that
comes with 98, and run disk based webs.

But, based on reports in these newsgroups over the past couple of years,
FP98 will not be very compatible with XP, and there will be many issues.

Try installing at your own risk.

Can you help me. I lost my key code for FrontPage 98 and I need to reinstall
it. How do I get the key code?

The cdkey is stored in the Windows Registry. A utility like Belarc Advisor
(free from www.belarc.com) can retrieve such information. You don't mention
if FP is already installed or not.

I had to reformat my harddrive (c:\), so I don't think i'll be able to use
this tool. Isn't there a way Microsoft cawn provide a new key code. I've
got the genuine
CD. There Must be a way

Since FP98 is out of lifecycle and no longer supported, it's highly unlikely
they'll replace the key.

I found out I didn't need the Key Code for my FP98 CD. See I bought FP 2002
Upgrade. If you start with the Upgrade CD, it will ask you for the CD that
is authorized for the upgrade. I put the FP98 CD in and it ran just fine.

Thanks for your help anyway.
