I used to like to copy the DVD to the hard drive and install from there. Is
that still possible with Vista? I want to dual boot to start with so I can
get out of situations so can I use XP to copy the DVD to my D drive and then
run the install from there? That would leave XP on C: Vista on D:.

Thanks, Rich

Rich,

Yes, copy the entire DVD contents to the D drive and run the setup inside
the sources folder within XP.
Vista will install to the D drive and you will be dual-boot, but Vista will
be the default boot option.

If you want XP the default, you need to use the bcdedit command from an
elevated command prompt (in Vista) and type
bcdedit /default {ntldr}

If you want to remove Vista and put XP back you have to boot from the XP CD
and update the MBR for XP.

If you want to change which is default at bootup or the wording on the
bootup menu, which says Other WIndows .... IMO the best is to install
the free VISTABOOTPro applet and use their very nice UI.

It also makes it easy to delete the VISTA installation if you should
want to.

Do a Google on VISTABOOTPro .....
