When trying to install EQ2 I get the message error 6005.

They told me that this OS is not supported and to try the compatability mode
(I did, still not working) and if that didn't work to contact
MS................

I've tried all 3 Settings mode on Windows XP compatability - still no dice

Ideas?

I'm not sure but it looks like XP is supported. At least that's what the
page says here:

http://www.eq2arena.com/content/everquest2-requirements.php

So I am searching for error code 6005 during installation and seem to have
found some information. It seems that you should probably remove any files
already installed and clear out your temp files. You should also disable
your security software while you're installing it. Another suggestion was to
attempt to install it in safe mode. I suppose that's worth a shot as well.
Need to know how to access safe mode?

Yes - I know Win XP is supported -= but they don't support Win XP 64 - Sony
told me to contact MS............ I've tried to compatability the installers
but that is not working either. This is a brand new machine that has nothing
else but Office and WoW on it.

Looks like I might have to dual OS the machine until EQ2 can be compatible I
think - unless/until someone else here can find out something more about 64
bit XP

Ah, you didn't mention it was XP 64... However, Google tells me that it
works with XP 64?

You haven't downloaded any DirectX versions other than the one that came on
the CD itself? Do you have a real build or one of the beta builds of XP 64?
Disable comp. mode and run it in straight 64 bit. If this does not manage to
work then you might want to take a trip here:

EQII *requires* DirectX 9, and is designed to work best with 9.0c. If this
guy is using some other variant of DirectX he's going to have many, many
problems. But it's hard to tell from his cryptic messages. Still, I thought
I'd pass along that information fyi for future reference. And yes, EQII most
definitely does work with Windows XP lol, and that includes all known
variants.
