Tom

Hi again :D

I am thinking about installing vista onto the last space on my laptop
(10gb), what are the chances it will cock something else on the system up?
E.g. I cannot have the EISA Utility partition deleted, and do not want to
reinstall :D

Tom

If you prepare (i.e., define and format) the partition for Vista beforehand,
there's no reason why it would screw up anything, anymore than on a desktop.

Tom

Woohoo! :o) Glad it all worked out for you :o)

You can't use Dell, HP or Gateway OS on others because the particular OEM
has modified the OS to tie to their board. The "OEM System Builder Pack" (of
WinXPProx64) is not tied to a specific motherboard until it is installed
(even then, it can be installed on a replacement board, even if it isn't the
same make).

I don't know about the mouse or keyboard as qualifying system hardware, but,
I know that hard-drives are.

For windows XP OEM, mice and keyboards are qualifying hardware - eBuyer were
even selling a £2 mouse with the xp pro oem cd!

Tom

I've seen it sold with a power cord!

;-)

Well i suppose oem's get away with it as they are selling the pc with it
on...

How long do Microsoft Piracy take to respond to you? I send an email asking
whether i could download an xp home cd legally for my OEM COA cos Acer only
supplied a restore image that i had to burn to a dvd... crap :)

Tom

I did - they said sent me an email saying that if i didnt have a burner
drive to burn the restore disk, they would send me one for a one off cost of
£50 --- i can buy a new copy of home oem for that?

Tom

Actually I know where you're coming from. I've got an Acer laptop, and had
to recover my laptop a few times. But those recovery disks are sh.... not
good. So I just thought "hey screw it" and used Windows XP MCE that I've got
and dual booted it with Vista ;o)

Ya, nice - i would like xp pro on this machine, but not going down the
"download and use tweakNT" road like a lot of people i know have. Its not
worth it.

Tom
P.S. I really would like a 80gb 7200rpm laptop harddrive if any ones got one
they could post to me free of charge :D
