Installing BCM

When trying to install BCM, I get the following
error: "Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to
the server error logs and setup error logs for more
information."

I would do that if I knew what I was looking for and what
to fix when I got there, but alas, I do not. I'm sure
others have had this prob. Little help?

Do you have MSDE installed for any other reason (another application
perhaps?). Are you a member of the Administrators group on your local
computer?

Before it tries to install, it installs Microsoft .NET
Framework 1.1. Does that help?

I'm going to need a little more assistance on that MSDE
question. I'm not stupid, just ignorant.

I do however believe that I can get into the Admin areas.
Small company, no need for high security. Owner setting
is admin.

Thanks.

Where does the error occur? When installing the .NET Framework or when
installing BCM?

MSDE is a scaled down version of SQL Server. You might check with your IT
department if you have one to see if they know if any software you have on
your machine uses MSDE.

For the Admin question, please clarify...the account you use to log into
your computer is a member of the local administrators group on that machine?

Can you get into the Users control panel applet? If so post back.

The error occurs when installing BCM (which it tries to
do after installing the .NET Framework).

IT Dept. That's a good one! It's me and 2 others in a
basement. What kind of software would use MSDE?

The account I log on with is Owner, which is listed under
User Accounts as Computer administrator. I can change the
name, create a password, etc., which I get to thru
Control Panel.

Is that what you needed?

Business system software often uses MSDE. Unless you have some proprietary
software for your business, I'd assume you don't have it.

For the user accounts, also check to see if you have an ASPNET user listd.
You'll n eed this for BCM to run properly, although it should create it
automatically.

Do you have an Antivirus product on that machine? If so, try disabling it
and then running the install again.

There is an ASP.NET user listed.

I disabled antivirus and tried it again. No luck. Same
error.

Ok, we're not out of options yet. But I'm on my way to a meeting. I will
post back this afternoon.

Look for the folder \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$MicrosoftBCM.
If you find it, delete it, and then rerun setup.

Was there something in particular I was supposed to glean
from that article? It sound like just different ways to
delete those files...if you want me to try all the
different ways, let me know. Otherwise, what's next to
try?

Do I need to post again to get someone's attention? That
sounded kinda snippy...I just don't know protocol. Anyone
have another option for my prob?
