We have installed BCM2010 locally on a laptop to check out the product and
have made some form modifications for leads, opportunities, etc. We would
like to install BCM database on a server for VPN access for a couple of our
sales reps. Can we do a database backup and then restore on the server to
maintain all form customizations?

I think you can, but I have yet to test it.

Yes, you can, and although people have been able to make VPN work, it
requires some work.
Microsoft does not formally support sharing BCM over the VPN, so you
will have to rely on the web on this one.
