I am trying to install an additional 60 gig hard drive to
my XP system. XP however insists on making all the
available space a volume and the disk dynamic. I want to
partiton the drive and leave it as a basic disk.

Any ideas ?

Check the jumpers at the back of the drive. The new Maxtor drivers do not
require a jumper if you are configuring the drive as a slave, putting a
jumper where the slave jumper used to be initiates the Capacity Limitation
feature... which often brings up the behavior you see.

Thanks Cari, I'll try that though the whole drive is being
seen, just that XP insists on making it a volume and a
dynamic disk - but will give it a go - thanks again for
replying.
