Hi,

Our Network has an existing domain controller, I want to
add an additional domain controller so that in case the
extisting domain controller fails the other will
automatically take over and there will not be any
networking problems.

But after running DCPROMO, at the point where the Active
directory is installing it gives an error message
indicating that no permissions are avialable to modify the
settings,

But Iam logged into the additional machine as the
administrator of the existing domain.

Is there any permissions I need to alter or reduce
restrictions in the existing domain controller so that it
will allow the new machine to install AD without any
problem.

Regards,

Nilantha

Nilantha,

Is the 'Administrator' still a member of the Enterprise Admins group? When
you ran dcpromo on the soon-to-be DC you did stipulate that you want to add
an additional domain controller to an existing domain, correct?

HTH,

Thanx Cary,

I'll check whether the Administrator is a member of the
Enterprise Admin's group. Yes I selected the soon-to-be DC
to be an Additional Domain controller on the existing
domain.

Okay, check that 'Administrator - Enterprise Admin' thing and let us
know...
