My OS is windowsXP SE. How does one go about installing a program to one
user only and not All users? Some installation programs have that option
but not all.

If the install doesnt allow you to select which user then deleting /
amending the shortcuts will work, allthough a savvey user could still run
the program

There is no "Windows XP SE" that I know of. Windows XP Home, Professional,
Media Center, TabletPC, x64... With SP2?

As far as limiting an application to only one user - that is much more
complicated than some of the installations that do 'have that option' let
on. Many of them merely do not put the shortcut anywhere but on the current
user's desktop or in the current user's start menu. That does nothing to
limit the use of the program - more like the security by obscurity thing -
'out of sight, out of mind'...

As long as the other users on this computer are not administrative level -
one thing you can do is change the file/folder permissions on the
installation folder of the application in question so that even if the user
has the shortcut - they do not have permissions to get into the folder to
run the application. Even better when you also move the icon(s) out of the
All User's folder and just into whatever user you wish to have access to it.
So you have the 'out of sight' protection followed by the 'you don't have
the proper rights to get to the application' protection.
