it's something that i would'nt mind having a go at doing.

A lot of mechanical head positioning on the trial and error basis, and
some electronic adjustments.
Generally speaking - rather difficult and precise job.

You do need a service Manual and the setup software, to set up the alignment
of the print head..

Thanks for all replies. Again out of interest where is the best place
to try and obtain a service manual from and when you say setup
software do you mean the print head alignment utility software that
you get with the printer or is it some specialist software that only
epson and service agents have?

I think so i've had lots of trouble with it lately in regards to
getting the heads clean on both black and colour. It isn't urgent now
as i went out and bought a new printer the Epson Stylus C64, now the
only problem is that as it's quite a new printer no one seems to have
compatibles for it. I had ran my previous stylus 800 on original espon
carts only for years until i bought some compatibles for it.

Now that i have this new printer i don't want to waste all that money
on Epson only cartridges.
