I have a desktop computer running XP Home SP1. I'm currently using a
parallel port printer, (a five-year old HP Deskjet 712C) but will purchase a
USB printer in about 3 weeks.

Before I add the new printer, I need to remove the old one. Is it as
simple as going to Control Panel, Printers & Faxes, right-clicking on the HP
printer, and clicking delete? Or is there more to it? There is nothing
related to my printer in the Add/Remove program list.

Hi,

going to Control Panel -> Printers & Faxes right clicking the printer and
selecting delete is the right way to remove printers ...

Not really. Although you *can* do it first, you could also remove
it after you add the new printer, or you could keep both
printers.

Yes.
