I recently purchased a new motherboard and P-4 2.4 chip
to upgrade my computer. Windows XP is already on my hard
drive, which I installed 5 months ago. What are the
steps I need to take so XP recognizes my new motherboard
and runs properly? Thanks.

Unless the new motherboard is virtually identical to the old one
(same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.), you'll
need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at
the very least:

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.
