I have a new Latitude 131L laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate installed that
is on a domain. When I try to add a network printer, it starts searching for
printers, then a message pops up that windows explorer has stopped working
and I get kicked out of the printer installation. I have tried this with UAC
enabled and disabled. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I would
greatly appreciate any input.

Are printers published into your Active Directory? If not you can disable
the AD search feature

gpedit.msc
Computer Configuration / Admin Templates / Printers / Add Printer wizard -
Network scan page (Managed network)
Disable or configure for you purpose

in a cmd window
gpupdate /force

this refreshes the policies

Now run Add Printer

Hi Alan,

Thank you. My printers are not published in AD. I will try and disable the
AD search feature.
