Installing a microphone

I can't seem to get my microphone to work. I am using
Windows XP and a standard stick type microphone. It's
plugged into the right place at the rear of the tower and
I have gone through the Test Hardware section on the
Control Panel, but no luck. Can anyone help please.
 
hi, have you been into sound, and audio device
properties, picked your mic, and made it default sound
recording, and voice device ?
 
Double click the sound icon in hte tray (right side) then click on Options.
Properties and put a check in Mic then when it shows in the controld make
sure the Mute is Not Checked.
