Installing 98 after installing XP

I have two hard disks with 6 and 5 partitions respectively. XP is installed
on C which is NTFS. The system has been very hard earned, (I mean
up-to-date). I know its not advisable to install 98 after installing XP but
I wanted to know if there was a way of doing it without any problem.

Is it safe (w/o data loss) to convert from NTFS to FAT 32 using partition
magic 8? How about doing it and then installing 98 following your
instructions. Afterwards I will convert my C to NTFS again. What do you say?
 
I've never used Partition Magic, so can't answer that question for you. I
know it supports it, but have just never used it. I prefer BootIt Next
Generation.
 
As long as the C: partition is FAT or FAT32, you can install 98 after the
fact. Just don't install it to the same partition as XP is installed on.
 
which means I cant convert my c to NTFS after installing 98, What would
happen if I do that? and is there any way to correct it afterwards? Thanking
in anticipation.
 
The 98 boot code must reside on a FAT32 partition, and it must be on your
boot partition. Converting to NTFS after 98 is installed, will render 98
unbootable, since its boot files don't know anything about NTFS.

Yes, you can install 98 on any FAT32 partition, but the boot partition must
be FAT32 as well.

If you want to keep your C: drive as NTFS, check out Boot It Next
Generation, or PQBoot (part of Partition Magic).

If you have PM8, use the BootMagic bootmanager and leave the XP drive NTFS.
There is nothing magic about using the XP bootmanager, and you will not risk
the chance of data loss in the conversion. Plus, you couldn't convert C back
to NTFS anyway.
PM8 has a very comprehensive user manual that will guide you through the
process.

Well Michael, Thank you for offering to help. I tried using it but received
an error (about disk manager's auto detect feature in sector 2 of hard disk)
after I installed boot magic and when I searched for the error details, it
said, disk manager needed to be uninstalled (and eventually loose data) and
I astonishingly do not have disk manager on my disk. I do, however, have
diskwizard 2003 and that probably is also an ontrack thing, but after I
searched for relevant information on ontrack, they said it wasn't their
fault and the hard disk will remove that auto feature on reformat. So after
this exercise, I gave up on using partition magic, and am now rather looking
for something else that could do the job for me as well as retain everything
on my pc as before.
