I'm trying to install windows server on a compaq ML330 server, with an SCSI
hard drive. When i boot the system with the windows disk and install the
programme it claims that there are no hard drives and cancels the
installation. I even tried a different IDE hard drive and it still says the
same message, has anyone ever come acrross this error before and now how to
resolve it?

My guess is that you must press F6 and provide a diskette which contains custom disk drivers.

When i press F6 it says : an unexpected error occured at line 962......."

You didn't mention the drive controller (possibly SCSI, or ultra DMA, or
ATA100, or raid, or serial ATA), but you may need to boot the Windows 2000
setup disks or CD-Rom and *F6* very early and very important (at setup is
inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller detection,
and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to
insert the manufacturer supplied Windows 2000 driver for your drive's
controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

When i press F6 before it has searched for inspected my system and then press
"s" it says:

"an unexpected error occured at line 962......."

Then you're too late pressing F6

Also if you're using an LS120 floppy drive then this can also cause
problems. Use a standard floppy drive to get through text mode portion of
setup.
