I'm trying to use Maxtor's HD untility MaxBlast3 but it wants to create a
floppy - a problem as I don't have a floppy drive.
Can I con it into creating a 'phanton' disk that I could burn to CD?

Sure, don't see why not.

Check some of the free download sites for programs that will allow you to
create a virtual drive, and use B: as the drive letter of that virtual
drive. You can't bind to the A: drive (normally) because the system may not
like that.

No guarentees, but from what I gather, that's what you're trying to do.

Hope this helps! :)
