Im trying to do a fresh install of Xp pro and when i reach the enter product
key part , it tells me that my product key is invalid. The key is on a
sticker on the side of my cpu , so why doesnt it accept it?
I lost my system disc that came with the computer , so i borrowed a copy to
do the install. Ive tried both service pack 1 and service pack 2 installs ,
neither will work.
Is the OEM disc that comes with dells computers different? Is that why it
wont work?

The Product ID is valid as long as you use the same type of installation
CD. You can't use an OEM key with a retail version, you need to use an
OEM CD. If you had borrowed a Dell OEM XP Pro cd your key would have
worked. Either you find someone who can lend you a Dell cd or you will
have to call Dell and ask for a replacement reinstallation disk.
