Windows Installer constantly pops up "Preparing to
Install" even when just highlighting anything on the
desktop. Actually opening any folders causes Installer to
interrupt about every 30 seconds. No clue as to why this
has begun to occur. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thank You.

What application is it trying to install? Are you cancelling it? If so,
let it complete.

Installer simply pops up every time I even highlight any
folder. I've both cancelled it (at least 50 times, and
just let it do it's thing, also at least 50 times.
Installer never really installs anything. It just pops up
constantly and prevents use in any folders at all. It
always only says "Preparing to Install" but installs
nothing and never mentions any applications. Wicked
annoying and baffling....Allan

Followed the 3 links ok and opened the Reg file which
went to the Registry on its own, but Installer is still
popping up every few seconds, still "preparing to
install", yet installing nothing...just blocking use of
all files & folders. Can't get the tip re; opening Reg.
files with Notepad either. Can't find the Reg. files to
view the default settings.Waiting to donate to the Doug
Knox Site....

Allan,

When you download the REG files, right click them and select Save As. Save
them to a location you can find, like your Desktop. Then right click them,
in turn and select Edit. This will open them in Notepad so you can view the
contents.

Ok for a couple of requests here.

1) Does the installer open when you click a drive icon in Explorer? Or just
when you click on a Folder?
2) Does it happen in both the Folder pane (left) and the right pane?

3) Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder

and if the answer to #1 above was yes,

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive

Right click on each of the subkeys referenced above and select Export. Give
each resulting REG file a unique name. Attach them to an e-mail to
(e-mail address removed) and I'll take a look and see if something's been
added, or is incorrect that might cause this behavior.
