::sob:: I have now been at this for 3 days. I installed my new HP psc 1210 All-In-One printer. It wouldn't install and it was suggested I uninstall Adobe Acrobat, which I did. Went back to the printer installation, it would hang at about 75% completion and never resume. After 4-1/2 hours, I finally got the software installed, the printer works fine, Win XP Pro works fine. Then I try to re-install Adobe and a few other software applications. Whamo! Every single installation hangs at 50-94% completion, and never resumes.
I have tried everything. All of my Services are turned on. I monitored Processes in Task Manager, to see if they were having the same problems as my printer software again (to many sessions of msiexec.exe running). I am at my wits end. anyone else out there having the same problem? And if you have, any suggestions? Cures? Fixes? Prayers???

A few suggestions :

All services turned on take much of system memory so turn off what you don't
need.

msiexec.exe is a component of Windows Installer, every session of msiexec
must be every installation attempt so it's probably safe to end those
processes but before you start ending those processes, restart your computer
and see if they end automatically.

Hanging is commonly caused by spyware programs and many freeware programs
include spyware, If you have installed any, it's posible you have them.
When your system hangs, unplug the Internet connection and if it resumes,
it's likely you have spyware on your system. Install Ad-aware6 from lavasoft
and/or Spybot-Search & Destroy from safer-networking.. to make sure your
system is spyware or adware free.

If your XP Firewall has not been enabled it's convenient to do it now.
