Could you tell us how you are are launching setup? Is it from the DVD ROM,
Virtual Drive? Did you boot from the DVD or launch setup from within XP. Is
this a clean install or upgrade. What is your system specs? You could try
extracting the contents of the ISO to a folder, launch setup from there, if
you are installing on a logical partition.

I had the same issue, I am installing a fresh copy on a compaq presario v2000
an AMD turion 64 processor 512 ram 80 gb hdd was installing from a dvd

I'm gaving the same problem ...
I'm running the installer (booting from DVD), I'm not changing any language
preferences, than selecting install button ... after that I see "the
exception unknown softare exception (0xe0000100) occured in the application
at location 0x776b4b98"
I'm using clean install ony my athlon x64 3000+ , 512 RAM ...

I've checked md5 checksum of
"vista_5384.4.060518-1455_winmain_beta2_x64fre_client-LB2CxFRE_EN_DVD.iso"
with "FileCheckMD5 version 0.2.1.10" and it is
807b14e3861896d0b0cb309aac02bcfb

is it correct?

I gave up with the x64 version im now running x86 just fine for the most
part... it would be really nice to get x64 to work.

Still getting the error. I've redownloaded AND reburned the DVD at 1x, still
getting the error. Driving me insane. I frankly don't care about the x86
version; if I wanted an x86 OS, I'd just run windows XP. I wanted to try the
64-bit Vista.

If it's of interest, I'm using a V2000z as well. Maybe there's a common
problem, here.

Turion64, ML-37 (2.0ghz)

I'm also getting the same error on a brand new PC that has the "vista
compatible" sticker on it.
3.07 Celeron D 346, 512 MB RAM, 120gb hdd.
I am trying to install the 64-bit version -> boot up from DVD burned at 2.4x.

I got another checksum... maybe because of the german version???

vista_5384.4.060518-1455_winmain_beta2_x64fre_client-LB2CxFRE_DE_DVD.iso

the checksum is

c9317d798d190dd03948c411d81b6589

Hello. I also have a brand new Compaq Presario V2570NR w/ a Turion 64
processor, 512 ram, and 60 gig hard drive. It will not install Windows Vista
for some odd reason. It goes to the please wait screen then gives me an
error stating : " The exception unknown software exception (0xe0000100)
occured in the application at location 0x779e4b98 .... do any of you know
what is going on? I have reburned the dvd rom 3x thinkin perhaps my disks
were crap, but they are not b/c it worked on a amd 64 desktop.

Sadly I too am having this mysterious error on my computer when trying to
boot from the disk :-( !

I have a:
eMachines T6212
AMD athalon 64 3200+
512 Mb Ram
160 GBs

I too had this problem with my Presario V2424NR (V2000 series) I succesfully
installed 64bit Vista Build 5384 by entering into my BIOS setting (ESC)
during boot-up and setting Video Memory to 32MB. Anything more and I would
get the dreaded exception unknown software exception 0xe0000100. My system
config:

Compaq Presario V2424NR (V2000)
AMD ML-34 64bit 1800
512 MB RAM
32MB Shared video memory
100 GB HD
Clean install of Vista Beta 2 Build 5384
