I turned off the firewall, I have no other security or anti-virus software
running, keep trying things, Vista tells me my high speed connection is fine
except nothing works to get on the internet, not even Vista's own help can
get on the internet. Suggetions?

How did you get Vista? New computer, or did you install on old computer? If
old computer, did you remove the antivirus/anti spyware and firewall that
was present on the previous operating system before upgrading?

If a new computer, what has been provided by the computer manufacturer to
protect your computer?

I have had to remove both McAfee and Norton products from brand new laptops
to enable them to access the internet. The manufacturers had supplied
versions that were not compatible with Vista.

Thanks for the reply Richard, I was only using Microsoft's Live Care on that
computer as the antivirus software before the upgrade. I bought the Vista
upgrade retail and installed it over XP.

I lost my Internet connection after updating but found that in the services
console the "DNS Client" had been enabled and started during the upgrade. I
disabled it and restarted my computer and the Internet has worked since.

If it's just after you've installed, I've found it to be flakey network
card drivers, especially for onboard.

I have a mobo with onboard LAN and even though there are Vista drivers
for it, they don't work. Went and bought a £3 realtek chipped PCI one
instead.
