Installed Upgrade - PST Got P'Oed off and Left

Somehow, somewhere, the PST file has left the building.
Really not a good thing.

Upgraded from O2K on Sunday to O2K3 - part of that was
Outlook. Chose upgrade, it went through everything just
fine. Today, the staffer who uses that station came in
and said her entire Outlook profile and all emails are
gone. I checked it out - sure enough it was gone. No
PST that has the info either (there were 3 in the system,
but none contained her info).

Have Norton GoBack coming on Friday - does anyone know if
that'll work?
Would a Windows system restore bring it back? The
TechNet concierge wasn't sure.

Thanks All!

I would leave the station "as is" until Norton comes as the chance of
restoring becomes smaller if you continue to use the station.

A System Restore restores system settings not user data so it won't help you
here.

Is this a common problem? Has it hapenned to anyone else
here? Some people I have asked about it say it is new to
them, others shrug and say it happens all the time.
I have 6 more comps to upgrade - should I be worried?
(I will ensure that the PST is backed up on CD before I
UG next time)

I haven't done an upgrade from Outlook 2000 myself but it should upgrade
nicely. Outlook doesn't touch the pst-file when deleting a profile and I
don't expect it to do this during an upgrade either. If all your
configurations are the same and you update in the same manner it should
whipe the pst-files on all the configurations. Again; I do NOT expect this
to happen but if your going to back-up all the pst-files anyway you've got a
nice testcase.

Please post back your findings so I know if we should consider this as an
issue or not.

Hi Conor,

Thanks for posting here!

According to your description, I understand that after upgrading from OL2K
to OL2K3, all the email messages are lost. If I have misunderstood your
meaning, please do let me know.

Upgrading Outlook won't touch the .pst file and from your description the
issue seemed began several days after upgrading to Outlook 2003. Windows
system restore may help but not 100% sure. If the lost data is very
important, please try contacting the 3rd party data recovery vendor. Such

Still can't find the root of the problem, but Norton
GoBack restored the PST file to its previous state.

Thanks everyone for the comments!
