I just installed Vista Ultimate x86 on a virtual hard drive in Virtual
Server 2005 R2. The total size of C:\ inside the guest OS (Vista
Ultimate) is 6.33 GB, and the total size of the VHD file on the host
PC (Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition) is 5.48 GB.

Is anyone else seeing disk sizes like this immediately after the OS
install? I realize that the Ultimate Edition comes with everything
plus the kitchen sink, but XP SP2 Professional is only 2.38 GB inside
the guest OS and its VHD file is 1.35 GB.

Just as a comparison, I am running Vista x64 build 5744, and my Windows
folder alone is just over 11GB in size ;-)

Vista is larger because it tries to do a whole lot more. Whether or not the
space is "well spent" is open for debate, but you've got the expected result
there, is what I mean to say.

Vista Ultimate and Office 2007, along with Java, Adobe reader, AVG and
general support stuff is presently using 17gb of a 38gb partition here ..
