I am running Windows 2000 pro on a P4 Dell machine that is
part of a SBS2000 network. When I was running client
computer setup on this machine it promted me to install
service pack 3. After I installed SP3 and client computer
set up I started having network trouble. This particular
machine stopped recieving an IP adress and no other
machines were in network neighborhood and other machines
could not access it. I tested the NAC and even tried
different patch cables and ports on my switch. Four other
PC's just like it were working fine. I finally entered a
static ip address and all I could see was this machine
under network 'hood. When I entered the static IP the
network connections properties locked up. Any advice
would appreciated.

Thanks Mike

Un-Install SP3( I hope you archived SP2 files) , It seems to cause random
problems. People will say there is nothing wrong with it, but whatever..
I had to uninstall it on about 20 computers. Several Micron client PRO's , 2
DELL servers, and several DELL clients and laptops..
I would get problems ranging from browsing problems, DHCP, on some machines
the network properties dialog would 'lock up', espec. if I tried to change
the TCP properties. or install / uninstall a protocol. I reverted back to
SP2 and ALL the problems disappered. I haven't tried Win2k SP4 yet, Im
satified with just SP2. (I dont feel like repairing Machine OS installs). I
also had issues with the sound cards on the Microns, they just quit working,
but no errors / events logged. Reverting back fix this problem also. There
are MANY posts relating to the problems / weirdness of SP3 all over the web,
for many brands of computers... It doesn't like some types of hardware,
apparently..

Good Luck..
KT
