Hope you can help. I took a IDE 200GB drive from my old machine and
installed it my new Vista HP Pavilion a6230n for backup/storage. The a6230n
came with a SATA drive (400GB). I used the IDE connection on the
motherboard for the 200GB drive and tried Cable Select, Master, and Slave.
Problem is that I can not get the 200GB drive to show-up when I click on the
"Computer" icon. I can see C:/, and D:/. I see the drive in "Computer
Management" and "Disk Management" and can change the Letter designator when
ever I want. The drive in qestion show status as Healthy (Active, Primary
Partition). I tried reformating the drive and selecting a different drive
letter. Setting up two partitions then changing it back to one. Still no
drive leter showing up for this drive when I click on the Computer Icon on
my desktop. I can type the drive letter "L:/" into the address bar at the
top of the open folder and I see the drive and it's contents. Tried calling
Seagate Cutomer Service to no avail. Soooooo, any ideas out there??? Thanks
inadvance..... JohnS

Check your manual for the BIOS settings that will enable both PATA and SATA.

All, Interesting how this issue was resolved....

While my wife was working on the computer the system crashed. I asked her
to leave it along until I got home. When I got home I rebooted the computer
ans started checking the computer to include clicking on the "computer"
icon. Well, I could now see all my drives - SATA and PATA!! Problem
solved....

Anyone have any idea what may have happened to solve this problem?
