Installed .net 3.5 but WU prompts to install 2.0 and 3.0?

I installed .NET 3.5 to a new install of Windows Server 2003 EE and rebooted
and when I go to Windows Update it prompts me to install .NET 2.0 and .NET
3.0. I thought .NET 3.5 installed these? Shouldn't these already be installed
and at SP1?
 
right - so if 3.5 has already been installed , why is he being prompted to
install 2.0 & 3.0 via wu ? They should have been installed with 3.5.
or does this imply that 3.5 has not in fact been installed ?
 
I know that. I'm saying that after installing 3.5 windows update still
prompts to install 2.0 and 3.0 which it should not, as you've pointed out 2.0
and 3.0 are already installed.

I reinstalled 3.5 and this has resolved the problem.

Because he only downloaded the 3.5 file and started the installer?

That would be my best guess. During the install, it fires off the
bootstrapper to install the other two. Depending on what you have installed,
it will either install the full 2.0 SP1 or the upgrade.
